The other night, I had the honor of attending Serving Up Smiles, benefiting the
enCourage Kids Foundation. Held at Chelsea Piers’ breathtaking new venue
Current, this event “served up” lots of smiles (and food) from a whole host of awesome restaurants and food purveyors from the New York City area.

Hands down, my favorite sweet treat that evening was the cinnamon ice cream and snickerdoodle cookie sandwich from
Melt Bakery. These bite sized morsels of goodness had me coming back for seconds (actually thirds!)

Not far behind in second place (Sweet>Savory in my book) was coconut panna cotta with chocolate coconut ice cream pop from
Bryant Park Grill. I love a good combo of coconut and chocolate- and extra points for the super cute presentation.

I can't forget about the savory - the duck confit bun from the (aptly named)
Buns Bar really blew me away. This fun take on the old Chinese classic was really cool. Plus the duck was so tender and actually paired really well with the soft and fluffy bun.

The chilled shrimp ceviche with avocado mousse from
El Toro Blanco was also another standout. The generously sized shrimp were nice and plump and the tortilla chips served as an excellent edible scooper. Overall, a nice and refreshing dish.

As they say, a good party is never short on alcohol - which meant this party was great! From the Tito's Bar to the Disaronno Stone Sour cocktails sprinkled in with a plethora of wine, this was definitely a festive event.

On a more serious note, while the food and drink were fun and fantastic, the purpose of this night was to raise money for the enCourage Kids Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing one-of-a-kind experiences for kids facing chronic / life threatening health issues. Since starting 31 years ago, this foundation has awarded over $14 million for over 800 unique programs to make the hospital a little less scary for these youngsters.
