MMMMM Good at The Milton NYC

Even though it's been cozy (layers of) sweaters weather for the past few months in NYC, the Mister and I still make an effort to make it out of the apartment once in a while - after all, being cooped up all day in a small space can drive one quite mad!  What was our reason for braving the wind chill this past weekend? A dinner at The Milton NYC, a new Upper East Side bar and restaurant specializing in fusion of American, British and Irish cuisine.

When we arrived, we took a liking to the homey and comfortable decor of the place - the exposed brick and candlelit tables warmed us up immediately. Dinner was started off with drinks from the restos extensive list of signature cocktails - the sweet and tangy Lemon Over Basil ($12) and fruity spicy Lucky Walker ($11) were real treats to kick the evening off on a tasty note.

For an appetizer, we had to try the Truffle Chicken Nuggets ($10), served with red beet sweet and sour sauce. These baby chicken bites were as casual and as unpretentious bar food could be, but the hint of truffle gave the dish a nice upscale nod.

Since it was so chilly outside, I had to go full on hearty for my entree with the traditional English Cottage Pie ($18). Out came a ginormous bowl of braised short rib topped with mashed potatoes and Gruyere cheese - this meal stuck to my bones and then some! The short rib was wonderfully tender and the mashed potatoes with Gruyere was so flavorful - this is the epitome of a comfort food classic.

Despite knowing the Arctic Tundra awaited me upon departure, I had to end my meal with a Knickerbocker Glory ($8). This British ice cream sundae was large enough to share and the perfect ending to my meal.

The Milton is a great addition to the Upper East Side with its cozy atmosphere, comfortable food (done right), and excellent service with a smile. I look forward to heading back to enjoy more wonderful food - hopefully in warmer weather!
