Here Batter Batter at NYY Steak Midtown

I might not know baseball but I do know my steaks. So when I heard that NYY Steak, the premier steakhouse at Yankee Stadium, had opened an outpost right in Midtown Manhattan, of course the Mister and I had to check it out.

When we walked in for lunch last week, we were immediately impressed by the Yankee themed atmosphere and attention to detail. NYY Steak Midtown's three-­story space features a custom made Signature Wall adorned with 86 autographs of legendary Yankee players, a case of personalize knives (presumably) used by all the famous Yankee players and frequent VIP guest when they stop by, and blown up photos of historical Yankee moments. The ambiance was truly awe inspiring - even for the occasional baseball watcher like myself!

Although the place was spectacular, the real highlight was the food. We started with the signature NYY Steak Bacon ($16), 4 pieces of thick-cut slab bacon topped with wilted spinach and maple glaze - served on Yankee player Don Mattingly's #23 numbered plate . Hands down this was the best item of the afternoon. I've had similar bacon slabs at Lugers and Wolfgang's, but NYY Steaks' are more rich, more juicy and more in quantity - even the spinach topper was flavor infused and delicious! (An interesting piece of FYI: Our Yankee fanatic waiter told said this dish is served at the White House.)

For the main course, we had to go for the Big Kahuna - the 27oz Long Bone Rib Eye ($58). 27 ounces in honor of the Yankee's 27 World Championships, this big hunk of dry aged USDA prime meat also comes with a personalizable bone. The portion was ginormous and the red centered meat was just plain fantastic - cooked to a perfect medium rare. Memorable and enough leftover for dinner! Also not to be missed are the donut sized onion ring stack ($11) - although probably more for show/conversation piece/photo opp, the onion rings added a nice crispy crunch and paired well with the meat.

We were super full and on the verge of meat sweats, but managed to save a bit room for dessert. We should have save more because the Cookie and Cream ($13) was large enough to feed a small army. Two massive head sized chocolate chip cookie sandwiched a thick slab of rich (and most likely full fat) vanilla bean ice cream, and then was topped with warm fudge and whipped cream. And if that was't enough, an additional "mini" Yoo-Hoo ice cream float (Yogi Berra's favorite dessert) was served on the side.

Feeling as bloated as Babe (albeit not as athletic), we were treated to a tour of the private dining rooms post meal by our blue and white pinstripe attired waiter. These former bank vaults turned party space showcase framed more Yankee photos and even display the original player contracts from Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle. What a cool place to dine and a real treat for die hard Yankee fans.

Although pricey, NYY Steak is a memorable and fun dining experience for the both the Yankee fan and/or steak connoisseur!
