Taste Testing the New McDonald's Dulce de Leche Caramel Shake

By: Finance Foodie

Inspired by the traditional Latin American dessert, McDonald’s new Dulce de Leche Caramel Shake is made with reduced fat vanilla ice cream, caramel syrup and topped with whipped cream and a cherry. The newest member of the family, the shake joins the existing line that includes Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. The Shake is a seasonal offering available for the first time nationwide beginning June through September.

Of course being the self-appointed McD new product guinea pig, I had to test one of the sweet treats out. My thoughts? Hello Diabetes! This shake (in contrast to McD other summer drink offering, the Blueberry Pomegranate smoothie) is super duper sweet. Coming in at a whopping 580 calories for a small, this shake should only be consumed in two occasions 1. as a "dessert treat" after a very healthy and light calorie day 2. at 4am after a night at the club/bar, when you are so drunk you don't care what goes into you body. However, other than the high calorie count, this shake is otherwise pretty tasty and has a nice consistency (not too thick, not too thin). Bottom line: like alcohol, consume in moderation.
