A “fun.” Time at Ben and Jerry’s Campus Consciousness Tour Preview in the Bowery Ballroom

Over the last two weeks, the band fun., the non-profit REVERB and the tasty Ben & Jerry’s held a two-week Campus Consciousness Tour that allowed all fans attending the opportunity to connect with their campus LGBTQ organizations, to learn how to be an Ally, get involved in the fight to get corporate money out of politics, and of course, sample free Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.

My New Best Friends

A few weeks ago, Ben & Jerry’s, fun. and REVERB gave selected media an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at what the Campus Conscious Tour was all about. At the event, held at the hip and happening Bowery Ballroom in NYC, fun. gave an acoustic performance followed by an informal question and answer session with Ben & Jerry’s Social Mission Director, Rob Michalak.

We are young...

Yours truly was present and got to not only sample some delicious ice cream (loooove me some Americone Dream!), but also got a chance to chat briefly backstage with the band. We chatted about the fun stuff like the band’s fave B&J flavors (they, like myself, have good taste and love them some Americone Dream too!) as well as more serious topics as in how the group planned to get people who don’t fundamentally “get” gay marriage to see that it’s legit. Fun.’s response to this was that since the “majority of the people [who don’t believe in gay marriage] don’t have all the information, they don’t know how normal it is.” Therefore, by helping to educate the public by these concerts, they hope that over time, “the more [gay marriage] becomes out in the open....you realize it’s not a big deal.” Food for thought indeed.

Interviewing the Band

The Campus Conscious Tour officially kicked off with a very special Halloween show at Portland, Maine’s State Theatre benefiting Mainers United for Marriage, a broad coalition of groups and people working to win the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Maine.
