Models and Bottles: Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 Party and Show Highlights
By: Anne M. Raso and Finance Foodie
When one thinks about Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City, one thinks of models, runways and the celebs in the first rows of shows. We find that the parties happening around Fashion Week to be as exciting as the shows, if not more so in some cases. Some parties we attended had nothing to do with fashion, although many of the guests or even the honorees made a point of taking in some shows.

A Celebratory Chinese New Year at Dumpling Café Boston
By: Jessica Cickay
On January 1 – New Years Day – most of us made a resolution to get healthy, exercise, and eat right. On February 8 – the Chinese New Year celebration at the Dumpling CafĂ© in Boston’s Chinatown – I made a rigorous resolution to get a healthy portion of dumplings on my plate, exercise my right to eat copious amounts of dumplings, and eat said dumplings right away so I could go back for additional dumplings. What can I say? When the Dumpling CafĂ© is doing the dumpling making, I take resolutions very seriously.

Good Eating for a Cause: Boston's North End CityFeast
By: Jessica Cickay
At the 2012 North End CityFeast – Dining Out to Conquer Diabetes event to support the Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund, I realized that I am really good at eating for a cause. I’m also really good at eating for fun. And eating for two…or three when my blood sugar reaches the point of “ruh-roh”, and eating for no reason beyond the fact that eating is awesome. But every morsel of my meal at the premier North End restaurant Tresca tasted even better knowing that each bite was giving back to those fighting a disease desperately in need of a cure.
After a quick reception at Antico Forno, where I did my best not to corner every waiter carrying around platters of steaming hot, ooey-gooey, crispity-crunchity arancini, and where Mayor Thomas Menino made a speech about the importance of the work the Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund is doing, I nestled into my seat at Tresca and held on tight for the five-course dinner to come. First off, an oldie but a goodie…yet with a Tresca twist! Our salad course was the Caesar con Tarfufi, a classic salad of romaine hearts and shaved parmesan cheese, elevated by a Caesar dressing spiked with aromatic and earthy white truffles. Simple to the untrained eye, but these eyes know something special when they see it.

Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival in NYC: Part Deux!
By: Anne M. Raso
We had such a BBQ Blast at 2010's Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival held at La Venue/The Tunnel, that we had to go back. Every attendee gets a festival logo beer glass that they can get unlimited refills of (you guessed it) beer and bourbon but I was there for the eats! There were over 70 vendors of both booze and 'cue, and we tried to visit all we could all while trying to stay upright! And for those more into girls than grits, Larry Flynt sent over his Daisy Dukes girls, who were giving a portion of the proceeds from their $15 calendar to several charities, and of course they were providing the mainly young male crowd plenty of photo, ops, autographs and even hugs! There was also a bacon eating contest with a $100 prize, but we just did not have that big of an ability to pig out, even though we usually excel in general in this arena! We did the first session only, which was called The Bacon Bash Session, but it was about a whole heck of a lot more than bacon.
