Sailing Away: Odyssey Boston Dinner Cruise!

"Rock the boat..."

Confession: I would love to live life on a luxury boat. Picture this: the freedom of sailing from one exotic local to another and having fresh from the ocean seafood cooked to order each day while the wind sweeps through your hair -- doesn't that sound like a grand old life?

Well, until I have enough moolah saved up in the bank for that lifestyle, I'll just have to settle for spending as much time on these vessels whenever the opportunity comes a knocking. Therefore, when I was asked if I wanted to check out the Odyssey Boston dinner cruise's St. Patty's Day "Open House Boat" at Rowes Wharf, I was like "ummm, duh!"
When I stepped on board, I was immediately greeted by a friendly staff of ship mates and, more excitingly, a chef at the buffet carving station. Though I was super bummed that the boat would be docked during the event, I managed to console myself by generously indulging my stomach from the ship's buffet.
For the appetizer / entree portion, I had a Caesar salad, some roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, pasta, and salmon. These were all okay but really standard (plus some of the items were getting cold) -- I hope they have a better selection on the real cruise!
Since it was St. Patty's Day and I wasn't wearing any green (not really my color -- it clashed with my skintone :p), I made sure to imbibe in / carry around the festive apple martinis that the waiters were passing out like hotcakes!
The real standout of the entire meal were the desserts. The Chocolate Truffle Torte was simply to die for -- moist, rich, and ultra smooth -- I knew an extra hour at the gym was needed for sure to burn this baby off as I indulged (happily). The raspberry petit fours were my final bites -- a sweet ending to a sweet plate!

In summation, I would say the food (ex-desserts) on the ship is a bit uninspired (although this was a large party, so it might have been quantity over quality. Plus, after speaking with some of the guests, it seems like most people take this cruise not so much for the food, but for the open bar, dancing, and views). Anyways, this visit greatly satiated my boat dreams - I'm excited to set sail one day soon!
