This past Saturday evening, the Ovations for the Cure organization hosted the Night of the Monarch Ball at the Westin Boston Waterfront. This event was held to conclude the National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, to honor Ovations’ founder – the late Patricia Franchi Flahtery, and to raise funds for continued ovarian cancer research. I had attended an Ovations event (Couture for Cancer) a few months back that was filled with yummy food, beautiful décor, and lovely fashions - so I was stoked to attend the much-buzzed about Monarch Ball.
When I arrived for pre-event cocktails, I was immediately greeted with a delicious blueberry martini, made with Cold River vodka, a splash of lemonade, blueberry puree and a heavily sugared rim. Mmmm…pretty drinks are always a great way to start the night!
Then, I checked out the never-ending mile long silent auction table. There were items for everyone – from sports memorabilia for the gentlemen to gorgeous jewelry for the ladies – time to start knocking items off the Christmas gift list!
And the program begins! The guests are seated and they began their scrumptious 3 course dinner. Sadly, just like they don’t feed the models, they don’t feed the press either :(
Emceed by NECN anchorwoman Beth Shelburne, highlights of the evening included a rather heated and entertaining live auction (where an intense bidding war escalated over a Franck Muller watch) and a touching speech by 16 year old ovarian cancer patient and activist Molly McGaffigan, who was presented with the Patty Franchi Flahtery Awarness Award for her work in promoting ovarian cancer awareness.
Here come the shoes! Stuart Weitzman’s fashion show concluded the night. Watching the models trot down the teal runway suddenly gave me the urge to go shoe shopping!
All and all, a beautiful Saturday night - great fun for a great cause!
